Service Fusion v.s. Jobber v.s. ServiceTitan: An In-Depth Comparison

At ServiceTitan, we talk to a lot of contractors who are shopping for their first field service management software (FSM), as well as many who want to trade their current FSM for another option. In these conversations, Service Fusion and Jobber are two of the products that come up most often.

Like other service business software platforms, Service Fusion and Jobber aim to help contractors and their employees improve the operation of their business by offering tech-enabled upgrades for important functions like scheduling, call-booking, dispatching, estimating, and invoicing.

Our product, ServiceTitan, is a competitor, furnishing solutions for these functions and much more, to service companies in a wide variety of industries, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, landscaping, pest control, and construction among others.

For business owners, comparison shopping amongst FSM solutions can be confusing. Often, these products look quite similar, even when in practice, they perform very differently, with markedly dissimilar user experiences.

Making the wrong choice can be costly, causing contractors to spend money on fees for products that don’t match their need and goals, and lost man-hours to wasted onboarding and training sessions. Plus, in cases where they choose the wrong FSM for their business, they’re liable to have to start all over again with a replacement (hopefully) better suited to their company.

In light of all this, it’s essential, in picking the field service management tool that’s best for your business, to think not merely about sticker price, but the true value for money.

In this article, we’ll try to make it easier for contracting business owners to figure out whether Service Fusion, Jobber, or our product, ServiceTitan, might work best for them. To make things as straightforward as possible, we’ll examine the strengths and weaknesses in the key areas in which the products are most different from each other.

Comparing Service Fusion and ServiceTitan on Specific Features

Let’s start by taking a close look at how ServiceTitan and Service Fusion compare on 3 core categories of features:

  1. Automated functionality

  2. Reporting features

  3. Mobile capabilities

1. Automated Functionality

One of the greatest benefits to contractors of using an FSM is using automation to cut down on the number of things that owners, managers, techs, and office staff have to do manually, and thereby increasing overall efficiency.

In this area, the differences between our product and Service Fusion are most apparent in two key areas.

Membership Billing

With ServiceTitan, users can automatically bill their membership subscribers on a monthly or yearly basis. You can sign up members, set their billing dates, and not need to worry about tracking their renewal dates and sending them future bills. It’s all done automatically for you.

And to make things more efficient still, we also offer a bulk membership billing feature that dramatically shrinks the time, effort, and overhead required to bill a set of subscribers on a given time period. No more billing members one by one.

At present, Service Fusion doesn’t offer these automated membership and bulk billing features. This means users need to track membership renewal dates more closely and individually bill customers on the appropriate dates. They also need to bill members one by one, even if there’s a large set of members due to be renewed in the same time period.

At a glance these can seem like small differences, but in practice these features can make a big difference for users.

Note: Both ServiceTitan and Service Fusion offer QuickBooks integrations to ensure accurate accounting.

Job Booking

Through our call booking feature, ServiceTitan users automatically see the name and address of incoming callers, a feature that reduces the amount of time they spend on each call and gives them the extra headspace to zero in on potential conversion opportunities. Automated confirmations go out to customers to confirm new bookings, and many of our contractors have begun to really capitalize on ServiceTitan’s web booking functionality.

Service Fusion provides similar job booking features, but they’re offered as third party add-on features for an additional cost. Unlike ServiceTitan where these features are built in, they’re not part of the core product.

2. Reporting Features

The ability to provide real-time performance and revenue data is one of the biggest advantages of FSM software for both large and small business owners.

The best service business software offer reporting tools to assist contractors in understanding things like:

  • Which marketing strategies produce ROI and which ones don’t

  • How and why their company is missing opportunities to increase revenue

  • Which of their employees are following best-practices and which are due for review and training

These types of insights can transform a service business from one that’s getting by to one that’s truly thriving. And ServiceTitan’s reporting features have a level of sophistication (and also ease of use) that stands out among the competition.

Employee Scorecards and Reporting Dashboards

Our Employee Scorecard feature allows ServiceTitan users to monitor employee performance over time according to measurable and fully customizable indicators like revenue production, time tracking, service agreement generation, work orders completed, and call conversions.

Similarly, ServiceTitan’s field reporting dashboard gives business owners and managers full visibility into what their techs are up to while they’re on a service call, providing them, via mobile app or desktop, with real-time data on metrics of their choice, as shown in the screenshot below.

ServiceTitan dashboards also provide real-time data on KPIs including:

  • Sales tracking

  • Accounts receivable

  • Profitability of maintenance agreements

  • Performance of marketing campaigns

In contrast, Service Fusion’s reporting functionality is more limited. They offer some basic reports, but they aren’t as customizable, and they lack the same ability to drill down into the numbers being reported.

ServiceTitan users, on the other hand, can click into any number on a given report, and see exactly where that number came from. This gives users trust in their numbers, which is absolutely invaluable to management and business owners whose businesses depend on accurate data.

3. Mobile Capabilities

Both Service Fusion and ServiceTitan offer sleek mobile applications—available on Android, iPhone, iPad, and other iOS devices—that help streamline operations for technicians in the field.

Our mobile apps facilitate job essentials such as:

  • Text messaging with customers and team members

  • Building and presenting estimates

  • Collecting all of the necessary information to create work orders and complete jobs

  • Accepting check and credit card payments

However, there are two key areas where ServiceTitan’s mobile functionality shines. The first is our offline capability.

With ServiceTitan, technicians can access and use our mobile app features regardless of whether they’re in a zone with good cell service. Techs don’t have to worry about pivoting to pen and paper or work around solutions when they’re out of service area. They can use their tablet or phone as they always do, and all of the necessary job information is captured as it should be, and uploaded to our cloud-based platform once they return to an area with cell service.

At present, Service Fusion doesn’t have this offline functionality. If your techs often operate in areas without great cell service, this is a factor to consider.

The second area of differentiation is our mobile pricebook which has greater functionality in two ways.

  1. Dynamic Pricing: ServiceTitan offers more flexibility to adjust pricing to equipment and services. Making pricebook updates for specific jobs and scenarios, such as adding a markup cost on the fly, is easy to facilitate.

  2. Industry Catalogs: Our Pricebook Pro provides users access to a wider variety of industry equipment catalogs, creating more upsell opportunities and flexibility for meeting customer needs.

Combined, these features allow our users to have greater control over their pricebooks, which is intimately tied to a service business’s ability to increase revenue.

Next, let’s take a closer look at the similarities and differences between Jobber and ServiceTitan.

Key Differences Between Jobber and ServiceTitan

Although there are many ways in which Jobber and ServiceTitan differ, three of those that tend to be most impactful to the success of a commercial or home service business include:

  1. Integration of core business features

  2. Mobile capabilities

  3. Reporting

So let’s take a close look at each of these categories individually.

1. Integration of Core Business Features

Two of the major differentiators between ServiceTitan and competitors like Jobber is our all-in-one approach and the level of customization we offer within each feature. Many FSMs including Jobber use more third party integrations to offer even basic functionality to their customers. And many of their features lack the customizability that ServiceTitan users benefit from.

Let’s look at some of the specific features where ServiceTitan offers highly customizable, built-in functionality (and Jobber’s equivalent features are less customizable or require third party add-ons):

Pricebook

ServiceTitan pricebook features, which integrate seamlessly with other business functions, allow users to build their own pricebooks from scratch or work from fully customizable templates. Contractors can automatically draw on pricebook data when creating invoices or work orders, making sales presentations, and more.

With ServiceTitan’s pricebook, each individual task is easily editable. So, for example, if you want to update the number of sold hours for a sink replacement from 3 to 4 hours—because you’ve determined that will help you better maintain profitability—you have the ability to do so right at your fingertips and in real-time.

At the same time, if you want to make bulk edits like applying a 10% markup across a set of services based on rising material or wage costs, you can easily do that too.

Jobber users can have a pricebook built for them, but they don’t offer nearly as much flexibility to make these sorts of customizations, bulk edits, or changes on the fly.

Equipment Catalogs

Our software also makes it possible for owners of field service companies to incorporate auto-updated equipment catalogs from manufacturers like Carrier, Bryant, Lennox, Amana, American Standard, Dalkin, Goodman, and Dynamic ACS into their account, ensuring that when they’re pricing jobs, they’re looking at up-to-date information.

Currently, Jobber does not offer integration with these top industry supplier catalogs.

Marketing

ServiceTitan’s Marketing Pro feature allows contractors to draw on the customer information that is stored automatically on the platform to generate micro-targeted campaigns, providing them with the intel they need to send the right message to the right customers at the right time—whether their goal is to close more unsold bids or capitalize on seasonal demand.

Jobber’s marketing functionality is more limited. They offer email and postcard marketing through a third party integration with MailChimp. But that means users need to learn yet another tool to leverage this feature. And they also need to periodically upload their marketing and customer data into Mailchimp—whereas with ServiceTitan, their customer data is already integrated with Marketing Pro, so no such step is required (and all customer information is automatically kept up to date).

Note: Both Jobber’s MailChimp integration and our Marketing Pro product are add-on features for an additional cost.

Accounting

While both ServiceTitan and Jobber have QuickBooks integrations, Jobber’s version is not accessible via desktop, and it also doesn’t offer two-way syncing.

ServiceTitan, in comparison, has automated two-way syncing between the platforms so your accounting is always up to date. And, it can be accessed on both QuickBooks desktop and QuickBooks online.

2. Mobile Capabilities

In addition to the advanced capabilities we described in the Service Fusion section of this article—real-time SMS texting between all of a company’s employees, customizable notifications, full accessibility to data and features regardless of Internet service—our software offers a number of mobile features that help service contractors streamline their workflow, improve customer service, and grow their bottom line.

These include GPS Tracking, which allows business owners and managers to follow their techs in real-time over the course of the work day, keeping employees accountable while allowing decision-makers to make adjustments on the fly if necessary.

At the same time, the mobile views available to techs while they’re out in the field are fully customizable with personalized settings. In other words, business owners can make sure that their employees have fingertip access to all of the data and tools that they need, while limiting functionality that is extraneous to their work and might otherwise reduce efficiency on site.

In contrast, Jobber users must opt for additional equipment and/or software add-ons, increasing the total cost of using the product. Even then, Jobber’s Mobile features are less advanced and less flexible. Some ServiceTitan mobile features simply are not available in Jobber.

Reporting

STRoughly 30 built-in reports come standard with a ServiceTitan subscription, covering things like profitability, job costing, and working hours, to name a handful of the most popular options. But users can also customize reports with targeted filters as specific as their needs, allowing them to gather intel on KPIs like marking ROI, sales process efficacy, and revenue trends.

In Jobber, this kind of functionality is relatively limited, with less flexibility to customize reports. Their reports aren’t designed to drill down into, either; users are more limited in their ability to verify the accuracy of the data that underlie the numbers being reported.

Conclusion

As we’ve often noted, for many service business owners and managers, the most difficult thing about choosing the right FSM is that, at a glance, many of the products on the market tend to look alike, even when in reality, there are huge differences between them.

In this article, we hope we’ve made it easier to understand the differences between Service Fusion, Jobber, and our product, ServiceTitan, particularly when it comes to key areas:

  • Automated functionality

  • Integration of core business features

  • Reporting

  • Mobile capabilities

For contractors who haven’t yet dipped their toe into the world of tech-enable service company software—small shops that are looking to get a little boost by applying quick fixes to the most basic business functions, like scheduling, routing, and dispatching, a product along the lines of Service Fusion or Jobber, might make sense. (Some of the other products we’ve written about previously, like HouseCall Pro or FieldEdge could fit the bill, too.)

However, for business owners who want to streamline their operations and integrate their most important and complex business processes—including things like job management, online booking, customer support, customer management, and project management—enabling them to drive revenue growth and efficiency gains without sacrificing ease of use, a cutting-edge field service software like ServiceTitan may be a better fit for you.
