From Reactive to Proactive: Implementing a Vivid Vision

August 6, 2024

Episode Overview

Darrell Whiteaker and Lindsay Ramsey started off together as high school sweethearts before getting married and co-founding of Inception Plumbing in Kansas City, Missouri.

Each had different mindsets and skill sets. Whiteaker was creative; Ramsey was good at math.

At first, their business was more reactive than proactive. Together, they explored a transformative journey and crafted a proactive business strategy. That led to the implementation of a “Vivid Vision” for their professional future.

Both knew they had to get organized.

“If you can't organize your thoughts, you're never going to build anything,” Whiteaker says.

He says Vivid Vision entails taking a very granular look at all your company’s processes and being hyper communicative with your team about infrastructure and goals.

This approach gets everybody rowing in the same direction for the good of the company.

“Your Vivid Vision is going to not just take care of you and your family, but a lot of other families and give them something to be proud of,” Ramsey says.

She adds: “You can't service a community with one or two people. You need a team to be able to service a community. That's part of our vision.”

Whiteaker insists that a company’s Vivid Vision is not a static process, but an ongoing one.

“I'm here for the climb,” he says. “I'm not here to land on the mountain with a pile of money. I get fulfillment from the climb, and that's where the growth happens.”

Whiteaker says Vivid Vision has enabled Inception Plumbing to be entrepreneurial, and to triumph after diving into pivotal moments and challenges.
