Technology adoption takes center stage at IRE 2025 as roofers look to grow

Chris Petros asked the crowd of roofers a few simple questions during his talk at the 2025 International Roofing Expo (IRE) in San Antonio.

“Show of hands, how many people plan on selling their business?”

“How many of you want (to pass your shop) on to the next generation?”

“How many of you want to draw up more cash?”

Practically every hand was raised—which wasn’t a surprise. But Petros, the general manager of residential markets at ServiceTitan, was trying to prove a point: All of the above scenarios could be achieved at a faster rate with software.

“Making your business repeatable—and augmenting that with technology—is the path,” he said. “Plain and simple.”

Petros’ talk revolved around the future of software in the roofing industry—a hot topic at IRE this year as roofers are seeing a shift toward technology and CRM software.

“The rate of development is going really fast,” Petros said. “And the earlier and more quickly you adopt some of these features, you are going to capture (more business).”

Bobby Fischer is seeing the same thing. Fischer is the vice president of partner programs with GAF, the largest roofing and waterproofing manufacturer in the U.S., which recently partnered with ServiceTitan.

“There is going to be a step change in this industry (as) contractors are realizing they need technology to get them to the next level,” Fischer said. “I believe that it's something that (roofers are) a little late to the game. But we're at a really good time right now, and I think we're going to see a big change over the next 12 to 18 months of people really embracing technology to help them grow their businesses.”

That’s why Fischer was excited about the new ServiceTitan partnership. As part of the integration, GAF QuickMeasure™ reports are now available within ServiceTitan, enabling contractors to seamlessly generate more accurate roof measurements and estimates. In addition to the GAF QuickMeasure integration, Master Elite contractors using ServiceTitan can receive a 3% rebate on their ServiceTitan core exteriors subscription*.

It also marks the first time GAF has officially endorsed a CRM provider.

“(We chose ServiceTitan as our preferred CRM because of) its scale,” Fischer said. “(We needed) a true CRM, end-to-end platform. We needed to go with the best one in the market and the largest one in the market to scale $10 billion in market cap, 3,300 employees, 10,000 customers. This is the kind of partner that we can trust and grow with our customers.”

Using technology to help uncover crucial business insights, Fischer explained, will help roofers grow their revenue and margins and, in turn, help better service their customers. And utilizing the right marketing tools and AI, Petros added, is imperative.

“If you don't know where you are driving the most revenue, it's a missed opportunity,” Petros said. “Because every lead that you are not capturing because you're not spending in the best channels is going straight to a competitor.”
