The HVAC Revolution: Data-Driven Support for the Trades

January 7, 2025

Episode Overview

HVAC technicians have dealt with a long-standing problem of servicing outdated units without the help of a manual.

That’s where Bluon CEO Peter Capuciati has stepped in.

Capuciati’s company has created the world’s largest HVAC database that can supply techs with technical data and support that’s hard to find anywhere else.

Bluon’s platform includes everything from wiring diagrams to troubleshooting tips. This database saves time, reduces frustration and empowers techs in the field to work smarter, not harder.

“Most of these HVAC units are 10 to 40 years old, particularly in the commercial space,” Capuciati says. “There are no manuals, no information, and you can’t Google it.”

Initially, Capuciati says, it was really a huge revelation to see how broken the HVAC industry is.

He found there were roughly 20 million unique models in the market. His team gathered hundreds of thousands of catalogs and retrofitted them into an all-inclusive library of sorts.

“We provide the technical data for that piece of equipment and the support of how to fix it, diagnose it, troubleshoot it, in a way that the industry has largely ignored over the last 20 years,” Capuciati says.

Collecting the data wasn't an uneasy task – and neither was convincing techs to trust the platform.

“We had to turn 325,000 HVAC technicians from skeptics to advocates, which is not an easy task because they’re quite jaded as a group, and rightly so,” Capuciati says.

In addition to manuals, Bluon also audio-recorded the wisdom of some of the best mechanics in the industry.

“Now we have this remarkable system that can answer the most nuanced questions you can throw at it,” Capuciati says.
