FieldAware is a commercial-focused field service management software (FSM) designed for use in a wide array of service industries including facility and property management, building and construction services, health sciences, medical technology, and oil and gas, among others.
If your company operates in one of these industrial service sectors, their software solution may be worth considering for your business.
However, there are two key business categories for which FieldAware likely isn’t the best field service software for your needs. Specifically:
1. Companies with Residential Service Divisions
The needs of service businesses that cater to residential customers are a world apart from those of the industrial service companies that make up FieldAware’s core user base.
If you run a residential service business—or a hybrid shop, servicing both residential and commercial clients—you’re almost certainly going to be better off with a field service management platform designed for serving both types of clients.
2. Service Businesses with Trade-Specific Solutions Available
There are field service management solutions on the market that are made specifically for serving a select few trades. For example, our platform, ServiceTitan, is built to serve primarily HVAC, electrical, and plumbing businesses (along with a handful of others). If you’re in such an industry, you’re likely to benefit far more from software that’s purpose-built for your type of business—rather than a very wide range of service businesses and industries.
For businesses that fall into either of these categories, this post will discuss 8 alternatives to consider that may better suit your needs.
Top FieldAware Alternatives
To begin, we’ll walk through some of the key differences between FieldAware and our product, ServiceTitan. Then we’ll share links to in-depth comparison posts that we’ve written on the other 7 FieldAware competitors.

1. ServiceTitan
One of the things that can make choosing an FSM challenging is the fact that competing products often appear to offer similar sets of features. Many cloud-based FSMs, including ServiceTitan and FieldAware, provide a comprehensive menu of essential SaaS features, such as:
Routing and GPS Tracking
Online Booking
Mobile App (compatible with Android and iOS devices)
Work Orders and Estimates
Invoicing
However, the key differences between our platform and FieldAware are that we: (a) Have robust features and workflows to serve both residential and commercial service businesses and (b) we provide a more tailored solution that’s focused on serving specific trades: HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and select others.
In the rest of this section, we’ll discuss some examples of how we can better serve these two business categories.
Specifically, we’ll cover:
Example #1: Advanced scheduling features that improve efficiency and maximize profitability
Example #2: Native pricebook functionality with unique automations and access to top plumbing, HVAC, and electrical supplier catalogs
Example #3: Good Better Best proposals that increase average ticket prices with residential customers (including specialized sales features for HVAC businesses)
Example #4: Project management and tracking features for longer-term construction or service and replacement projects
Example #1: Advanced Scheduling Features That Improve Efficiency and Maximize Profitability
Scheduling is a fundamental workflow for any service business—especially in residential and commercial service where there’s a high volume of calls and jobs. ServiceTitan has unique scheduling features that make this process easier than ever for CSRs and dispatchers.
Here, we’ll look at two of them: Schedule Assistant and Adjustable Capacity Planning.
Schedule Assistant
With most FSMs, scheduling a job with a customer requires a back-and-forth process of asking customers for availability, scanning through different screens to view technician schedules and availability, all while trying to account for various factors such as technician skills and route efficiency. This can be a challenging process for even the most experienced CSRs.
ServiceTitan Schedule Assistant helps to solve these issues and improve margins by suggesting a date, time, and technician that minimizes drive time for a given job.
While FieldAware offers some schedule optimization that helps to achieve similar results, ServiceTitan can be used directly from the call booking screen, showing CSRs the optimal day and time to schedule jobs based on drive-time efficiency, and reducing the amount of time it takes to search for the optimal technician.
You can also use Schedule Assistant from the Dispatch Board, job record, and on recurring service events. Technician skills, zones, and non-job events are factored into Schedule Assistant’s recommendations—so you can have peace of mind that the right technicians will be sent to the right jobs.
Adjustable Capacity Planning
In addition, ServiceTitan has Adjustable Capacity Planning that allows contractors to define, automate, and implement a capacity planning strategy that optimizes their schedules for profitability.
For example, they can easily increase capacity for maintenance agreement visits during shoulder seasons, or decrease capacity for maintenance visits during peak seasons, reserving more tech availability for emergency service and repair, system replacements, etc.
This can have an immense impact on profitability, and currently FieldAware does not appear to offer an equivalent of this.
The #1 newsletter for the trades.
Example #2: Native Pricebook Functionality with Unique Automations and Direct Access to Top Plumbing, HVAC, and Electrical Supplier Catalogs
Pricebooks are the backbone of a service business—and yet, FieldAware does not appear to offer built-in pricebook functionality. This likely requires using a third-party pricebook that may not integrate with the rest of your field service management tools.
In contrast, ServiceTitan offers robust pricebook functionality that’s natively built into our platform. It empowers you to take control of your pricebook, keep it up to date, and protect profitability by ensuring its contents are accurately reflected on outgoing estimates and invoices in real-time.
Here is a quick look at some of our pricebook features:
Pricebook Categories: The ability to organize pricebooks into categories by services, equipment, business units, etc.
Granular and Bulk Editing Features: The ability to update individual pricebook items, groups of items, or make pricebook-wide updates as needed.
Dynamic Pricing: The ability to set rules that automatically update your pricing when material costs or labor rates change.
Customer-Specific Pricing: The ability to set up rate sheets tailored to individual customers. For example, if you’ve landed a commercial service contract with a chain of restaurants or big-box stores, you can easily create custom rules for pricing and markups for that specific customer.
Pricebook Connect: The ability to access top HVAC, plumbing, and electrical industry supplier catalogs and link them directly to your pricebook—so as soon as an integrated supplier makes any changes to their prices, product descriptions, and images, for example, you can be notified of them, or choose to make the changes to your pricebook automatically.
In addition, we offer our Pricebook Pro add-on, a series of flat-rate pricebooks built for the top industries we serve (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.)—designed to maximize profitability and updated on an ongoing basis by the industry experts on our team.
Example #3: Good Better Best Proposals That Increase Average Ticket Prices with Residential Customers (Including Specialized Features for HVAC Businesses)
Particularly for service companies that serve residential customers, the ability to create and present Good Better Best proposals on-site is absolutely essential for closing sales and increasing average ticket prices.
Yet, FieldAware does not seem to offer features built specifically for generating Good Better Best presentations. For contractors who rely on residential customers for some or all of their revenue, this is a very significant drawback.
ServiceTitan, on the other hand, enables service business owners, managers, and field technicians to quickly and easily create multi-option proposals, both via mobile device and desktop.
Our mobile presentation view displays a number of features that inform customers and aid in increasing sales, including:
Product Visuals: Images pulled from ServiceTitan’s integrated pricebook that show customers the equipment they’re purchasing.
Savings Details: Info boxes that display data such as expected energy savings, rebate savings, and membership savings. These are a part of our HVAC pack, which includes a SEER Energy Savings Calculator, a rebates field to incorporate any relevant rebates happening in your area, and an HVAC load calculator. These features demonstrate the type of nuanced feature details that businesses can benefit from by choosing a solution that’s specifically tailored to their trade.
Financing Options: The ability to show customers financing options that can be approved instantly by our financing partners.
Based on our analysis of ServiceTitan customer data, our integrated financing has helped users achieve 11% increases in average ticket prices, 17% increases in revenue, and 19% increases in technicians offering financing to customers.
Example #4: Project Management and Tracking Features for Longer-Term Construction or Service and Replacement Projects
Construction services are among FieldAware’s core target industries, but their platform doesn’t currently seem to offer advanced functionality for project management: tools to aid in complex tasks like job costing for profitability, or creating applications for payment and maintaining continuation sheets required for AIA® style progress billing.
In contrast, ServiceTitan offers a robust suite of project management tools that can be used for longer-term projects, such as construction projects, or extensive commercial service and replacement projects.
Here’s a quick look at some key features in our project management workflow:
Creating Advanced Estimates: The ability to build detailed estimates for complex projects, including comprehensive lists of equipment, materials, and tasks needed to complete the work. Once estimates are created, they automatically inform subsequent parts of the job.
Requisition and Purchase Order Management: The ability to initiate the requisition of equipment and materials directly from the built estimate, which leads seamlessly to a purchase order creation workflow.
Project Financial Tracking: The ability to view high-level project financials such as expenses, cost to complete, total earned, total retainage, total invoiced, AR balance, and balance to finish.
Job Costing Tables: Detailed tables breaking down expenses and budget versus actual data that are automatically updated as you progress through the project.
Creating Applications for Payment: Continuation sheets can be auto-generated based on the project estimate and what’s been sold, making it easier than ever to manage progress billing.
With equal ease, any number of other actions can be taken from within the same project tracking workflow, including generating invoices, adding returns, and more.
It’s unclear how FieldAware users would manage these key project management functions that are common even in the core industries they serve. They likely need to invest in third-party project management tools that may not integrate seamlessly with their FSM.
